One shelf, many visits

I get a lot of questions about the shelf system that are often featured in the homes we show: The string shelf.  It is very popular in Sweden as you can see. You can buy it new in different colors or ,if you are lucky, you can find it at flea markets.

It was designed in 1949 by Swedish architect Nisse Strinning. You can read more about it here.

Here are some of the string shelfs in our Dos Visits. To see more of the visits just click the photos.

Thanks for the info! I thought they were Tomado Holland, I googled both and they are very similar. Anyway, I think I need one. Your blog is such an inspiration for me. I look forward to the next visit! Have a nice day, Monika

I love these shelves! My husband grew up with them here in Australia because his mother was Swedish and brought them out with her in 1960. Like many Swedish things they are such classics. And thanks for the blog which I really enjoy.

Hey. Love these. I have old Tomado shelves (60’s). Found them on the attic of my grandparents. I am still searching for a proper place to put them. Thanks for the inspiration!
