Dec 1st Sammy Rose´s Perler Beads

img_27561

I will start this Christmas-Blog-Tour, myself, with a DIY Christmas gift idea and giveaway. Me and my partner Jens make a couple of different popicon-portraits every Christmas for family and friends. They are so much fun to make and I think they look great.

What you need is Perler Beads, a pegboard (we used 29×58 pegs), ironing paper and a design pattern.

The design is the hardest part. Portraits from photos, up close make the best patterns. One bead for every pixel in your image is how to think.

I made this Superman portrait today and I have wrapped it for one reader to win.

Here is how to win it: Motivate in a comment why YOU should win, and I will pick a winner on Friday. img_27431img_2715img_2714

If you are a more of a “Mr-T-kind of person” below is a designpattern for you to make of him. Print it out and use on a pegboard with 29 x 58 beads.

If you are familiar with Photo Shop here is how to make your own.

1. Find a photo you like
2. What you want to do now, is to scale down the photo, so that each pixel represents one bead.
If we use two pegboards (29 x 29 beads each), we have 29 x 58 beads to work with, right? So, go ahead and scale down your photo to 29 x 58 pixels. You might have to crop out the sides, to maintain the aspect ratio.
3.Unless you have a huge collection of beads, you will have to decrease the number of colors.
4. Print it out and off you go!

Hehe, I love!

Wow, I love that. The Superman movies are an annual Christmas tradition (along with the Lord of the Rings movies). I’d really like to put it under the tree for my brother.

I have a supermanprint on my door (tomorrow on my blog..not for the first time ;)). I bought it in NYC to (beside the fact that it just look really cool) remind myself that I can do so much more than I think.
This would look perfect hanging next to it. And of course I am a loyal visitor :)

Dylan, min son, blev blixtkär i Supersnällasilversara i morse.

ha! check me, i HAVE a pretty profile pic.

and guess what?

i was in a Superman film once, long ago. really.

well, okay. what really happened is this – there was a breakfast cereal promotion and you could send away for a customizable Superman poster, with room for you to stick a passport size photograph of yourself next to Christopher. so i has one of those on my bedroom wall and with it, an unswerving belief that i was really in a Superman movie.

aw, i haven’t thought about that poster for a long time. i wish i still had it.

What a great artwork! How much time it must take to prepare such a portrait! My children like to play with their beads and I already have ironed many of their little works. I never thought about the possibility of making portraits :)
So, thank you for this nice invitation and YES, I definitely would like to take part in your lovely give-away!
Many greetings from Belgium,
Marjolijn

For my husband.

Three nights in row this week there has been a Superman movie on.

Superman 1 Tuesday Night
Superman 2 Wednesday Night
Superman 3 Thursday Night

Each night my husband has turned on the television in amazement that each movie is on. And even though we own 3 different versions of Superman 1 and 2. And of course one version of Superman 3, he insisted on watching them all because they were on TV.

I love my husband and his love of Superman. It reminds me of the child in all of us and how we all secretly (or not so secretly) remain in childhood forever.

I have been a lifelong fan of Christopher Reeve since I was a kid. My favorite Chris movie beside the Superman movies, is Somewhere in Time. He is one of my acting heroes. I adore him still. I love to win the beaded picture of Christopher. Here is a post i wrote about him and me,:

When my son was 2 months old he was paralyzed by his vaccines. He will never walk. He is now 7 years old and he loves superman. We belong to the Christopher and Dana Reeves foundation and we frequently talk to our son about how inspirational he was both before and after his accident. We use him as inspiration for our son to realize that he can do anything in the world!! I think he would love to have this hanging in his room. It is so cool. Thanks…Becci (mom to Austin…Superboy)

Having been a bit too busy the last couple of weeks I totally missed out on the blog fun and advent blog count down. Was fun though, to see all (1 to 24) lined up, bubbling with energy, fun and creativity. What a great idea, both sharing ideas and involving blog friends. Absolutely loved it! Love from Amsterdam.
