My family and I are working towards living as sustainably as we can. So this year we are making all our gifts from things we have found, collected or grown.

As a kid I was always jealous that although we had pool parties and BBQs at Xmas time here in Australia, people on the other side of the world were all rugged up drinking cocoa and building snowmen. But now as an adult, I love our end of the year warm weather traditions. And that we have a garden full of goodness we can share.

This year we have had a bumper crop of broad beans so I decided to make some broad bean dip to give away.

Here’s what I did:

*I picked and shelled the beans.

*Added them to boiling, salted water.

*Took their second shells off.

*Mashed them up with some olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic, cumin
and lemon juice.

*Spooned the dip into a sterile jam jar.

If you have any other easy recipes for broad beans, I’d love to hear them.

God Jul and happy holidays!

Love, Meg

I am sitting here in the darkest time of winter in Sweden. And this post makes me long for summer.

yes! it’ll be far too long before i can try this recipe. i like very young broad beans and peas with some pasta, even nicer with a spoonful or two of homemade pesto stirred through. oh summer.
