Some Tuesday link love – food to eat, feminist articles to read and women to get awed by

I’m having a kind of confusing day today. Tying bits & ends together not really feeling. POWER. Just feeling a bit low. But then what to do. Well, read, eat & seek inspiration by others. & do yoga. But I did hot yoga. It was very hot and the teacher sounded like someone giving information about departures in a train station. But now it is done, I’m eating some cheese and feeling a bit better.

To Read:

1. “The female price of male pleasure by Lili Loofbourow”
”Women are constantly and specifically trained out of noticing or responding to their bodily discomfort, particularly if they want to be sexually “viable.” Have you looked at how women are “supposed” to present themselves as sexually attractive? High heels? Trainers? Spanx? These are things designed to wrench bodies. Men can be appealing in comfy clothes. They walk in shoes that don’t shorten their Achilles tendons. They don’t need to get the hair ripped off their genitals or take needles to the face to be perceived as “conventionally” attractive. They can — just as women can — opt out of all this, but the baseline expectations are simply different, and it’s ludicrous to pretend they aren’t.
The old implied social bargain between women and men (which Andrew Sullivancalls “natural”) is that one side will endure a great deal of discomfort and pain for the other’s pleasure and delight. And we’ve all agreed to act like that’s normal, and just how the world works.”

This article pinpoints so much of what is basically wrong in the balance between genders.

2. “The silent rise of the female- driven economy  by Danielle Kayembe & Bourree Lam”
WHEN A POPULATION INFLUENCES 85% OF CONSUMER SPENDING, YET ONLY RECEIVES 2% OF VENTURE FUNDING, THERE IS A FUNDAMENTAL DISCONNECT AT THE LEADERSHIP LEVEL IN THE BUSINESS AND INVESTMENT COMMUNITY.
Yes it was worth all caps, right there! But very interesting. What kind of new products will we see when women get more power. In Sweden there is also this great company.

To watch, weep & show to all male friends and foes.

Woman to get inspired by- Anna Lidström
Her Instagram: Anotherblog.se
And blog: Another Blog
Wow, just wow. I read this great interview with Anna over at Krickelin’s blog (Kristin also took this beautiful portrait) it’s in Swedish but I hope you can translate it all!
I (or google did) translated a part that I could have written myself (or I wish I had) :

“I am passionate about inspiring people to look at the outside world through curious, playful and durable glasses. To inspire & to relax both in fashion and interior design while daring to use more color and pattern. To stop listening to all style politics, listen inward instead – what do you like yourself? I am passionate about inspiring people to buy secondhand instead of newly produced products and stop throwing textiles and other fully functional things – something that really makes me nuts! My dream is that more people could appreciate and see the potential of everything we surround ourseves with, that we allready own. See the potential in crooked things, the not so polished, the beauty of having a personal style as well. TI wish that we regained some kind of power by starting to do things with the hands instead of the help of the computer screens. That we make and customized what we already have, that that becomes “the new” instead of blindly rely on the latest trends. A kind of slow and creative rebellion, in favor of the environment and against the wastefulness of resources that is now on hand.

I’ve been following Anna on the net for years and love her style and obviously her way of thinking. And last week we finally met! Yay! It was such a pleasure. She came to my place and we just talked for a couple of hours. I totally forgot being a blogger and snapping images and so. But she is so cool. This week she was also appointed Sweden’s Second hand profile of the year! Congrats Anna!
anna also designs & styles the Miss Clarity Collection with her sister Clara And Anna Karin Nyberg. And I took these images from Claras Blog from when they were in New York. Just look at this stylish woman!

To eat:

Another lady to get inspired by is Sofia over at Mokkasin. She started with a weekly menu with recipes and all. And me who is not Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen (well maybe I do the yelling and the brusque manner but unfortunately the good stuff aka cook excellent food) loves this help. I cooked several new things from her menu’s and even the kids loved it! Win win. Sofia recently moved her blog to another platform and blogs like all the time. So head over there for mega blog boost.

Now my hot yoga sweat is starting to get awfully cold on my body. I’m gotta hit the shower and you have plenty stuff to read.

xxxx
