Sundborn – the artist Carl Larssons house
Carl Larsson is one of Swedens most loved painters and he lived in a village called Sundborn with his wife Karin and they got 8 kids. Their house is absolutely fabulous. Karin was also a true artist but not as famous as her husband although I think she should have been. They both created an amazing home. Very modern at the time and very much a place for kids. If you are in Sweden and have the time it’s worth a visit. Personal I’m not a big fan of his paintings but as for decorating and colors in the house I adore it. Also a fun part is that the living relatives are still using the house so while you can do a guided tour in some parts of the house, some other parts still have the relatives walking around in it – having a nice vacation.

This is painted above the front door. All over the house, inside, there are portraits of the family painted directly on doors and walls. There are ornaments painted on walls and ceilings and there is a mix of styles and colors all over the place. And a great sense of humor. That’s what I love about it. The more is more feeling to it.
It wasn’t aloud to take any pictures inside and me who’s is very law obedient – didn’t.
Just look at this. Stripes, hart, white, red, green, orange. A bit tyrol and a lot of Swedish. Mix and match.
I think this left part is another house that was moved from another part of town and was threatened of being burned down. The inside has almost all the surface painted by an old church painter and it’s crazy beautiful. And look at the mix of paneling. Old and newer. Part of the house orange and part of it red!

I enjoyed visiting Millesgården near Stockholm and would love to visit Carl Larsson’s house one day, too. I see it’s quite a long train journey from Stockholm but surely worth the trip! I appreciate your and Jenny’s sharing places of interest in Sweden. :-)
DIT vill jag verkligen åka! Har du läst boken om Karin Bergöö eller Larsson som det blev sedan då? “Karin Larssons värld”. Kan rekommenderas. Och på biblioteket kan ni säkert också hitta bilderboksvarianten av “Carl Larsson – Ett hem”. Mysigt för barnen att bläddra i som en slags uppföljning av erat supermysiga besök!

Love your blog. I am Swedish American, live in the US and am in the process of preparing a slide show for my Vasa group about Carl Larsson’s home. I visited there about 5 years ago and fell in love with the area and his home. It is what I would call, “So Swedish”. I stumbled onto your website while doing a little research. My father was from the Husqvarna area. I have visited Sweden three times.
