Menstrual cup Für alle

I just have to go on again about this exceptional  little devise called the menstrual cup.

The thing is I just can’t stop talking about it. It’s like I want to stop every prson on the street and tell them
– Well hello – you know I have my period now and I don’t even think about it any more. You wanna know why?

I don’t do this very often even though I feel like it.
But here’s the thing. It’s just there all the time. You don’t have to change it up until 6-12 hours. You can swim, sport, jump, pee and it’s still there. Also it feels much more natural. It’s better for the environment and it’s easier to just live.
When I first heard about the thing I thought it was a bit hippie, messy and weird. But now I’m just amazed that the world hasn’t seen more of it before. But one cup could work up to 15 years so I guess there we have the reason.

Right now there is a Swedish project called Lingonsystrar (lingonberry sisters) they will buy menstrual cups and bring to Tanzania to give to girls so they will be able to go to school even when they have their periods. Cause the thing is. A lot of girls in the world don’t go to school because of various reasons but to me it was completely new that they couldn’t go to school because of have their periods. Sometimes they can miss up to a week of school – then they fall behind and in the end is easier to quit. More about this you can find in this great post /in swedish). But also on the lingonsystrar blog.

Up until June 12 another 2 days that is. You can sponsor the Lingonberry sister project while buying a new cup or just give them money to buy even more cups. So if you don’t have one – now is an excellent time to try or give it to a friend, lover or whoever could use one!

Update:
Apparently they don’t ship the cups abroad but I’m sure you can buy them world wide just look at this link and they show their retailers!
Also via Dosfamily on Facebook and thanks to Agata we got this link – with different measuring sizes for different brands wich could be good to know!
And  I got a comment about not being able to wear it with an IUD- I can’t see why not? I use an IUD and it works fine for me!

I had been thinking about one for a long time, ordered it just a few weeks ago…tried it this week… and unfortunately it’s just not going to work for me :-( BOOOOOO.

I have an IUD, and the intense suction created by the cup is just not a good idea…I’m too young for babies guys, I can’t have my IUD getting displaced or being sucked out!

But for those of you without an IUD, I say GO FOR IT! It’s cheap (30€ or so) and made of silicon, so it’s good for 5 to 10 years if you take good care of it, and you only have to empty it a few times a day! It doesn’t dry you out like tampons do, and is much better for you (tampons are NOT just made of cotton, there are a lot of synthetic fibers mixed in!)

Actually these menstrual cups were first designed in the 1920s or 30s, but they didn’t go over well in the market because touching your ladyparts was too taboo at that time…it’s a bummer cause these little ladies are so economical, ecological and easy!

This project sounds like a good excuse to buy one!!

Jessy – I also have a IUD it’s NO problem – the cup doesn’t suck anything out it just holding it ‘s place just as a tampon would do! So just go for it!
